Fontan Time?

So I woke up with a stomach ache this morning...could it be the scheduled echo Angelina has tomorrow? Normally, this doesn't raise alarm in me, not to this degree anyhow. We have been lucky that Angelina's heart has done well. But you see Angelina is 18 months old now. At our hospital the Fontan procedure is done between 18-24 months of age. More than likely her heart cath will be scheduled after we see her cardiologist tomorrow. As long as her pressures are good, then the next step is scheduling her surgery! I keep saying I'd rather have it done before we get into RSV season....but that's so soon.
It's been a year since her last surgery. While she is still not really verbal, she can definitely sign or express what she does and doesn't want. I can just see her shaking her hands at me telling me "all done!"
This is the look we got a year ago on her second day post-op. I can only imagine what she'll do this time.
So here we go, one more heart surgery. At least this is suppose to be her last.

Elijah knows the ALL DONE sign very well, too. He's certainly not afraid to tell us when he is finished with something. :)

I know your fears and anticipation and tummy ickiness very well. E's second surgery was much easier in some ways and much harder in others. Being in the hospital and seeing his post-surgery state was easier. The time leading up to the surgery and dealing with the emotions surrounding it was much harder. Do your best to take care of yourself during this time. Vent and cry all you need to (email or call me any time mmporta@gmail.com 952-484-4921) and get lots of rest, etc.. We will all be here for you to help you through it.

Good luck with the echo tomorrow. I'll say prayers for you all. xoxoxo

I can't tell you enough how cute your girls are (and son is--handsome, not cute!)
Oh..another surgery...I don't like the sound of that either. BUT, I like the idea of her having it while she's nice and healthy than an emergency surgery.
You guys will be in our prayers tomorrow.

I need to go back and re-read all the details of her last surgeries...and the details of her heart defect...OR..you could post a nice refresher for us ( I mean..if you have the time...) Really...three kids...you should all kinds of time on your hands!!!

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow..PLEASE don't forget to post...we'll be checking often!
love,
kathy

There are too many of us that are familiar with the surgical process. I agree with Megan, some things get easier & some get harder! Vaeh's last (3rd) surgery was emotionally hard & yet she seemed to breeze through this one the best.

Kathy hit the nail on the head - get it done now while she's healthy & younger so that she won't have a hard recovery or good memory of it!

Praying that all goes well & she continues to shine!

Hugs,
Tina & Vaeh:0)

I just found your blog thru Issac's blog. I read from the beginning and must say, Angelina is absolutely a Gem. She is so cute and I love her hair. I have a 13 month old that is beginning to get awesome hair, but nothing like Angelina's.

I wanted you to know that you can add me to your list of Prayer Warriors. I will be praying for Angelina daily. I will also be reading your blog and keeping in touch.

I hope the Echo goes well, I know that must be so stressful.

Love and Prayers,

Rachel

I'm praying the echo goes well today.

We've only been through one surgery so I can't tell you I know what your going through. Alot of other heart moms have given you great advice. I know we will be facing another surgery ourselves one day and I'll be leaning on my fellow heart moms for support.

I do agree with Kathy and scheduling the surgery when she is healthy is a good idea. I also need to read through your blog again because I just realized I don't know what defect she has.

I'm so glad her signing is coming along. The 'all done' sign was Arianna's first. I'm so glad she is picking it up easily. I neeed to start teaching Arianna more signs but since she is starting to verbalize more alot of my energy has been into getting her to actually make the sounds. Angelina will be there too one day...just give her time.

Take care,

Vanessa
